Data updates and coverage
Understand report dates, publication timing, historical data, and apparent update delays.
Report dates and publication timing
The date on a COT report is the positioning date. Reports are usually published on Friday with positions from the preceding Tuesday, so the latest report does not describe today's positions.
The CFTC collects and processes the reported positions before publication. Tradingster then processes the release for its reports and charts.
Check the date shown on the report. Publication timing and site updates can be affected by holidays or delays. An older date can reflect the normal weekly schedule, a delayed release, or a site update delay; it is not a guarantee that the displayed data is current.
Check the CFTC report page and release schedule when investigating a delay.
Signals, Analysis and Watchlist show a notice only when a check found newer stored source data for the selected report families. The notice says what was available when checked; an unavailable or expired optional check creates no new warning. This compares the analysis with Tradingster's stored report families; it does not confirm that the CFTC has published nothing newer, that every market has a new report, or that an update is already running. Always check the report dates shown.
Where the data comes from
Tradingster obtains COT data from official CFTC publications and presents it as report tables and historical charts.
For report definitions and qualifications, read the CFTC explanatory notes. Optional price overlays use separately sourced Yahoo Finance data; prices are not part of the COT report.
Historical reports and charts
You can inspect available past reports and chart history on a market's public report page. History and price coverage can differ by contract and report family.
Use View Historical Data on a current report, or Change Date on a dated report. Inspect the date on the resulting page. Chart range controls adjust the history shown in the chart; they do not change the report table's date.
No fixed start year or complete history is promised for every market. Explore chart history and price overlays explains the chart controls.
